As I lay here this night
I reflect on
The seasons
My life has weathered
Over the years
With many smiles
And many tears
Oh, the moments of joy!
Yet, those memories the enemy tries to destroy
The memories of good times
Which make me reflect
On God’s faithfulness
Times when laughter flooded
The atmosphere
It felt the depth of love from
My community here
I’m sure
There were more
Seasons
Some had a somber tone
Some were dark
Some were blue
Such is human experience
Yet at some memory I wince
Because in truth
I reflect
On the precious time I spent
Or rather, wasted
With ungratefulness
See… we will all have seasons
Of joy and seasons of sorrow
But what helps us sustain our joy into
Tomorrow
Is gratitude
Oh… and how I let bitterness
And resentment linger
Far too long
Extending dark moments into
Long stretches of life
What could have been caught
And repented of
Lingered on
No wonder
There was a long season
Of low grade depression
There was a shift in my heart
For the better
When I shifted my spirit
To practice gratitude
Oh, so many blessings to be grateful for!
Thankful for!
The more you count
The more they multiply
So reflect on your blessings
Each day and night
Gratitude will keep the clouds of depression at bay
Far away
